“Laughter isn’t even the other side of tears. It is tears turned inside out…We blunder along, shredded by our mistakes, bludgeoned by our faults. Not having a clue where the dark path leads us. But on the whole, we stumble along bravely, don’t you think?”

― Alice Walker, By The Light Of My Father’s Smile

I grew up thinking that being hard on myself pushed me to be better, do better, and achieve more. I have since learned that being unrelentingly hard on myself makes me sad, tired, depressed, and paralyzed with the fear of doing things wrong.

What actually supports me in reaching high and holding myself accountable to my goals is creating what I like to call a ‘Celebration Engine’.

All you need to create a ‘Celebration Engine’ is to

  1. Set aside a consistent and recurring time to celebrate any and all steps you have taken towards your goal; and then
  2. Celebrate your and others’ accomplishments in whatever ways feel most nourishing.

Please note: additional celebration is not only allowed; it’s encouraged.

One more note: this is a powerful practice, but it only works if you actually do it! Put it on the calendar and honor this commitment.

If you’d like support in creating and honoring a consistent time for celebration, email me and let’s talk!
